Question:

The police officer said you was going 30 miles over the speed limit, The ticket he was given said that there’s about a $300-$400 range for speed limit that high. My dad says something about a speeding fee? And that he could go to jail? Today is Saturday he has court on Tuesday. I’m going with him to court and he’s thinking that he can just pay off this ticket but I’m thinking he’s going to get hit with a lot more, don’t want him to go to jail and I don’t know what the best thing to do is or what could possibly happen.

Answer:

Many people think a Speeding ticket is “no big deal”. In your boyfriend’s case besides the Speeding Citation for 30 mph over the limit, if he is convicted he is also facing a Georgia Super Speeder. A Super Speeder is anyone that is convicted of going more than 20 mph over the speed limit on the highways of Georgia and more than 85 mph on the Interstate. I would suggest that he AT LEAST talk to an experienced Traffic Attorney before he goes to court. It may be possible for the attorney to find a defense to the charge or at get the speed reduced so that it doesn’t put points on his license and prevents a Super Speeder.

Good Luck!
